"Autumn Leaves" is one of my favorite pieces of music, especially this version! Here's a little history on it.
"Autumn Leaves" is a much-recorded popular song. Originally it was a 1945 French song "Les Feuilles mortes" (literally "The Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert. Yves Montand (with Irène Joachim) introduced "Les feuilles mortes" in 1946 in the film Les Portes de la Nuit.[1] The American songwriter Johnny Mercer wrote English lyrics in 1947 and Jo Stafford was among the first to perform this version. Autumn Leaves became a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages and both as an instrumental and with a singer.
I've decided to go Patriotic this weekend. Sunday is Patriot's Day, and the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attack on our American soil!

I was home, having another bout with my curse - fibromyalgia, watching Fox and Friends. There was confusion on the set, and break-aways to the most horrific scene in our lifetime! Not since Pearl Harbor had anyone dared to attack us on our own soil!
At that time, December 7th, 1941, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, at least it is attributed to him, made this famous statement "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
Bin Laden and his misguided zealots did the same and look what happened to him!
This song brings back great memories of the fun I used to have, running around on the weekends with my friends, especially my cousin Nancy. We'd go out cruising our little town, stopping at the Steer drive-in, watching all the people slowly drive by - showing off their muscle cars.

We'd wind up going to the Waffle House and downing about what seemed like 10 pots of coffee! We'd save the little Waffle House coasters from under the cups, just to see how many we could collect.

This weekend I've chosen Bali Hai from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific. I saw the movie version when I was a kid and fell in love with all the music! I'll have to say Bali Hai is my favorite, though, of all those great songs.
Back in 1997, my hubby and I were living out in Seattle, well, just north in Lynnwood. I had to come home to Indiana (family matters) and drove by myself (scary, at times), just had my puppy Koki with me. I'd made it to Colorado and it began raining. It had become dark, and it seemed all the drivers just fell in love with their brakes! We were on the north side of Denver and I was really tired, so to keep myself awake and alert, I began singing Bali Hai. Can you imagine the look I got from Koki?! LOL!
Do you remember all the good roles Clint Eastwood has had? That man is so talented! Well, maybe he was just a hunk! He is in the same league as John Wayne, playing mostly characters that reflect himself.
I loved this theme from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly in high school. This was one of the original spaghetti westerns, so called because it was originally done in Italy and in Italian!

If you'll check out my music list at the bottom of my blog, you'll find my #1 favorite is Mason Williams' Classical Gas. I was a freshman in high school when this first came out - 1967-68! If I'm remembering correctly, Mason Williams was a guest on The Smothers Brothers Show. You remember them, right - Tommy and Dickie Smothers? "Well, mom always did like you best!"

I went to Indian Creek High School, Trafalgar, Johnson Co., Indiana. It was a brand new school, both the building and the name!
It was/is actually known as Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson Schools, a consolidation of three different schools. Two schools were in Johnson County: Nineveh Township and Hensley Township (Trafalgar), and one in Morgan County: Jackson Township (Morgantown).
Nineveh's school colors were Blue and White; Trafalgar's were Red and White; and Morgantown's were Purple and White. Our new school combined parts of these school colors to come up with the Indian Creek Braves' colors of Red, White, and Blue.
These pictures were taken about four years ago. The original building has been added to, and the middle school is now part of the high school.
But I digress! Mason Williams' Classical Gas has remained my favorite all this time, some 44 years. I hope you enjoy it as much!
