Harvest Moon and Jupiter Oct 14, 2011

Last Friday we had a Harvest Moon. Nothing really odd about that, right?  Well, this Harvest Moon also had a little friend in the sky - the planet Jupiter!

I took this picture a little before 5 AM.  This straight out of the camera (except for a little cropping, but that was just black sky).

See the little bitty dot below the moon, near the bottom of the photo, just left of center?  THAT'S Jupiter!

In this version, I added one of Kim Klassen's textures, "autumn burst" over the moon, just for giggles and grins.  Well, isn't a harvest moon supposed to be orange??? :)

Sharing this with Bunny Jean's Bunny Hop Party.  Why not "jump to it" and join in?!

Take care and God Bless!

Joy,what a beautiful moon and to see Jupiter, too, must have been exciting! Once and only once in my life I saw a perfect crescent moon with a planet a it's lower tip = right at the tip of the moon's crescent point. It was so pretty, and I've never seen it like that again.

Thank you for that cosmic experience.

Peace and joy,
Marianne

I didn't know that was happening. But at 5:30 am I might have missed it anyway :)

I have see some pretty big harvest moons but never managed to get them to look big in my photos. I never knew why until two weeks ago it was explained on TV or maybe yahoo, how the curve of the earth makes it look bigger in real life...or was it smaller in a picture? lol

Thanks Joy, for sharing this at my party!

Joy.... ALL topics are welcome... as long as they don't make me blush!

Those I listed are just examples:)

That's the fun of this party... it is to get to know each other and not stick to one topic!

Oh JOY!! (Litterly!) It's lovely! I was up at that time (I'm an early bird) but the clouds are thick in my party of Illinois this year, and I might not have seen it, so thank YOU for sharing!

What an interesting post for a linky party! You are neat!

Thanks for sharing. I'm visiting from Bunny Jean's Linky Party (Bunny Hop) today,

I took one of the moon almost identical to yours the night before!

Your original photo was great. But, I really love what you did with Kim's texture. Thanks for sharing this special moment in astronomy. Hope you'll hop over to onceuponafirefly.blogspot.com and read my inaugural post about how observing the moon and stars shaped my view of the world.

I just love a beautiful Harvest Moon...but never got to see Jupiter. How cool that must have been. Love the moon with the texture over it.....looks very spooky!
